Back To 2035

Back To 2035 16/11/2015 |

In Sept 2015 I started work on The Castle Youth Arts first project of the academic year. The Title for the project, which incorporated all 13 groups and all 200 young people, came from the fact that 2015 marks The Castle's 20th Birthday. The Youth Arts celebrated this by looking forward to 2035 to explore what the world might be like on The Castle's 40th Birthday. I devised and directed 3 pieces for this project. Drawbridge Primary - CYT Juniors, Shadows of the Epidemic- CYT Intermediates, Ethan Phone Home- CYT Seniors.

Fugee and The Heights

The Heights by Lisa McGee 06/07/2015 | Fugee by Abi Morgan  09/07/2015

In June 2015 I worked freelance for The Castle as a Director for the Youth Theatre. The groups I took on had already started work on their shows. My main responsibility was to run workshops/rehearsals that supported the groups as we developed and polished their shows in the last four weeks before their performances. As well as making artistic choices and creating lighting and sound designs for both shows. Friday Middles performed The Heights on the Main Stage and Wednesday Seniors performed Fugee in the Studio Theatre.

Perhaps

Perhaps 07/05/2015 | University of Bedfordshire

For one of my second year units, each student had to direct a 15 minute piece using first years as actors. I had been interested in literature from WWI since completing my A Levels in 2013. especially those by Vera Brittain. With 2015 marking Centurion, I created the script by adapting the letters between Vera and Roland Leighton her late fiancé found in the book Letters From a Lost Generation, and a poem by Brittain called Perhaps. Piece explored the stark contrast between finding love and the harsh reality of war through movement, emotion and storytelling.
